Turkish Delight!
Posted on: Monday, November 09, 2009
Earlier this year, I visited Istanbul for the first time. Before I left for Turkey, several of my friends had raved about the city, but I have to admit that it exceeded all my expectations. To me, Istanbul is like a cross between San Francisco and Paris: full of culture, sophistication and designer shopping (!), with the added natural advantage of its beautiful location where the East meets the West.
I was lucky enough to stay in the new Four Seasons on the Bosphorus, which has to be the most perfectly located hotel in town: right on the river. The wonderful staff couldn't do enough for us. I wanted to stay for a month. A local friend very kindly lent us his boat for a very glamorous sight-seeing trip and got us into all the right clubs, but one of the highlights for me was finding a copy of Getting Personal buried among the Stephen Kings on a book-stall at a tiny local market. The thought that someone might have taken my book there as a holiday read really made my day.
